John 7:38, Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of this belly shall flow the rivers of living water.” For over 165 years, the Coldwater Baptist Church has quietly nestled against the backdrop of Coldwater Mountain with the soothing sound of Coldwater Creek slipping through the woods nearby.
The creek forms nearby from the overflow of Coldwater Springs, from which much of Calhoun County receives daily drinking water. The source of the spring remains unknown, yet day by day, millions of gallons of pure water flow from its belly to provide life and refreshment to residents and visitors alike. Even though it has been utilized greatly, it has been fiercely protected through the years, to insure that its water will be preserved for many years to come. It is from this spring that our church and community received its name. In many ways it represents symbolically what we are about at this church. The difference is we know the source. Our life and sustenance come from the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Son of god.
It has been my privilege to serve as pastor of this great congregation since 1991. Through the years we have seen people come and go, but the church God has placed here remains. It is a good place. A good place to meet friends, to be part of a loving family, to learn about God, and share together with people who are concerned about your needs. It is a good place to find freedom to worship. A good place to raise a family.
Pastor's Comments
As of May 25, 2008, my ministry at CBC ended by the direction of the Lord. While we struggle to understand God's ways, we surrender to His divine will. The past 18 years have been filled with hard work, many struggles along with some great victories. Much work remains to be done, and I am confident that the next pastor will be able to continue to lead the church in an exciting new direction. CBC is a great church with a promising future. Many precious relationships remain. Debbie and I will miss being a part of this church family, and will always treasure the our days of service here. Many changes need to be made in order to insure stability and growth for the future.
Changes that must be made by the direction of God, and not by the desire of man. The church has a long and rich history. I believe the greatest days are still ahead. Pray for the pastor search committee and for the church. If you are looking for a church home, this would be a good place for you. I know the members will welcome you.
Thank you to those who have supported us for these many years. Be faithful in supporting your church now and in the future.
